Welcome to the Carolina Dog Society of America

The Carolina Dog Society, a non-profit organization, was formed in order to promote and encourage the breeding of better and finer purebred Carolina Dogs, a breed recognized by the United Kennel Club. Education of club members and the public about the breed and support of health-related and scientific studies related to the breed is the means by which to achieve this goal.  Quality and not quantity is imperative.  The Carolina Dog is one of the few breeds which maintains an open stud book.  An open stud book allows the entry of naturally developed dogs for whom there are no breeding records. The Carolina Dog Stud Book is privately maintained by the founder of the breed, Dr. I.Lehr Brisbin.  The Carolina Dog Society will conduct conformation events under the rules of the United Kennel Club emphasizing sportsmanlike conduct during any event in which its members participate and will offer educational resource materials, presentations by designated members, and will make appearances at public events that are relevant to the breed..

The advent of social media and the internet have spawned a great deal of speculation and opinion about the breed, making it necessary for the breed’s founder to organize a group to maintain the integrity of the breed and to create a place for people to come in order to discern fact from fiction.  The ability to connect electronically has revealed quite a lot of new information about these dogs and has spurred those in the scientific community towards additional research.  This organization will endeavor to keep its members and the public informed of the results of any new scientific conclusions about their breed.
